As a Kpop fan, you must have heard of DAUM and FANCAFE.
Most Korean celebrities have their own official fancafe where all their fans can get together to share and chat. And to the artists, fancafe allows them to interact and connect with the fans all around the globe.
So now, you stan VIXX, you wanna join their fancafe. People tell you "go to DAUM and sign up...". What does that even mean? You wanna join VIXX fancafe, why it has anything to do with DAUM!?
Here's the basic of how DAUM in relate to VIXX fancafe.
DAUM is a South Korean web portal. It offers many internet services to web users, including email, shopping, maps, webtoon, blog, news... etc. And among all the services, there's one called "CAFE" (카페).
CAFE are basically online forums. There's a wide range of CAFE for different interests groups, like food, pets, arts, books, health, beauty, sports...etc. "FANCAFE" (팬카페) is one of the categories. It includes all official fancafes of Korean idols, solo artists, athletes, writers, entertainers...etc. VIXX FANCAFE is one of them.
CAFE is opened to public, so anyone can create their own CAFE on DAUM. There's many VIXX fancafes created by fans, but only one is VIXX OFFICIAL FANCAFE, which is cafe.daum.net/RealVIXX (RealVIXX - case sensitive!!!)
This is why when you wanna join VIXX fancafe, you need to open a DAUM account first. DAUM is the gateway to access fancafe. You can join as many fancafe as you want, and you can set a different nickname for each fancafe. (e.g. VIXXSTAR for VIXX fancafe, LoveONEW for SHINee fancafe, BabyDO for EXO fancafe...etc.)
